President of Estonia visits the Storting
The President of Estonia, Alar Karis, is paying a courtesy visit to the Storting on Friday 4th February. Mr Karis will be greeted by the President of the Storting, Masud Gharahkhani, at the main entrance.
After discussions with Mr Gharahkhani, he will meet members of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence.
“Not only will the visit give us a good opportunity to reinforce bilateral ties between Norway and Estonia, but it will also enable us to discuss matters of mutual interest. Our two nations work closely together in the UN. Estonia is a key ally in NATO, and a partner in the Nordic-Baltic cooperation,” said Mr Gharahkhani.
After meeting the President of the Storting, Mr Karis will sit down with the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee’s leadership.
Recently-instated president
Mr Karis was instated on 11th October 2021, and his official visit to Norway is the first in his capacity as Estonia’s President. His predecessor, Kersti Kaljulaid, visited the Storting in November 2020.
