Office of the Auditor General to be asked to investigate the Storting
A proposal that instructs the Office of the Auditor General to carry out a special investigation into the MPs’ financial arrangements has been tabled by the Storting’s Presidium to the Storting as a whole.
The Presidium considered the matter and submitted its recommendation on 16th December.
The Presidium recommends that the Office of the Auditor General be given the task of investigating historic cases and practice relating to the Storting’s financial arrangements for MPs. The recommendation will also instruct the Auditor General to look into how the Storting’s administration has dealt with the allocation of benefits and the management of the MP’s schemes and arrangements.
The recommendation must be considered by the Storting in plenary session before it can be formally sent to the Office of the Auditor General. This is scheduled to take place on 6th January 2022.
Although no deadline has been set, the Presidium is keen for the investigation to start as soon as possible, and for it to be carried out both rapidly and thoroughly. It will be up to the Office of the Auditor General itself to determine how far back in time the investigation should go.
The Office of the Auditor General has already given notice that it intends to initiate its own examination of the commuter accommodation cases, the severance pay scheme, and possible other matters.
