“I’m much looking forward to welcoming good colleagues from the EU Parliament and the other EFTA nations. With this meeting of the Parliamentary Committee being held in Oslo, it’s an excellent opportunity to promote important initiatives where Norwegian business is at the forefront, not just at a European level, but globally,” said Trine Lise Sundnes (Labour Party), head of the Storting’s Delegation to the EFTA and EEA Parliamentary Committees.

The green transition and the war in Ukraine

The EEA Parliamentary Committee comprises MPs from the European Parliament, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, with Switzerland having observer status. This year, the green transition tops the committee’s agenda.

“The war in Ukraine is taking up much of our time and energy and has had a major impact on the debate on the future of Europe,” Ms Sundnes added.

The programme gets underway on Monday 23rd May with a reception in the Oslo City Hall and a presentation of Oslo as the green capital of Europe.

Welcome from the President of the Storting

On Tuesday 24th May, President of the Storting Masud Gharahkhani will welcome the MPs to the Storting. Equinor will host a seminar on energy transition and industrial collaboration within the renewable energy sector, and there will be a visit to Fortum Varme at Klemetsrud to see how their investment in carbon capture and storage (CCS) has significantly cut emissions in Oslo.

Other items on the agenda will be the war in Ukraine, health data, artificial intelligence, and the EU’s relations with Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
