A Nobel Peace Prize that gives hope for the future
“This year’s Nobel Peace Prize, awarded to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), goes directly to the heart of a conflict the world community is deeply concerned about,” says President of the Storting Olemic Thommessen.
Thommessen believes that the prize is due recognition of the international community’s fight against violent conflict and attacks on the individual.
“The work of the OPCW is an important example of successful international cooperation to abolish a weapon of mass destruction that causes unfathomable human suffering. It is my sincere hope that the award will contribute to the final abolition of all chemical weapons,” says Thommessen.
The Nobel Peace Prize for 2013 was announced on Friday 11 October.
