The President of India visits the Storting

During his visit to the Storting the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee was due to talk to the President of the Storting. This is the first official state visit Norway has ever received from India.

India's leading role as a driving force of democratic development and as partner for Norway in Asia were both relevant topics when India's president met the President of the Storting, Olemic Thommessen on Monday 13 October.

Pranab Mukherjee has more than five decades behind him as a leading politician in India and board memberships which include the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the Asian Development Bank.

Mukherjee has played an important role in consensus building between different groups in India's democratic system and was elected president in 2012.

The president of India is accompanied by several Indian ministers on his visit, providing an opportunity to build parliamentary networks between Norway and India.
