On 19th-20th January, the Storting’s delegation to the Nordic Council undertook a study trip to Copenhagen. Among the items on the agenda were meetings in the Folketing (the Danish Parliament), and with the secretariat of the Nordic Council.
“The 2025 parliamentary election led to extensive changes in the composition of the Storting’s delegation. With no fewer than 17 of our 20 members being completely new to the delegation and the Nordic Council, this long-planned visit has been unusually useful and important,” said Helge André Njåstad (Progress Party), the new head of the delegation.
“We regard this visit, and especially the meeting with the Danish delegation to the Nordic Council in the Folketing, as particularly important in light of the demanding security policy situation we currently find ourselves in,” he continued.
In a statement after the meeting, the two delegations made it clear that Denmark and Norway stand together on Greenland within the Nordic Council, and that Nordic cooperation is more important than ever.
The two delegations support the need to send an unequivocal message that the Kingdom of Denmark’s sovereignty must be respected. Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders and is part of the Kingdom of Denmark.
