President of the Storting Masud Gharahkhani was one of the many speakers and presidents of parliament who took part in the EU Conference of Speakers on 3^rd-4^th May. This year’s conference was held in Denmark in line with the tradition that the country holding the EU Presidency in the second half of the year hosts the event.

Among the main items on the agenda were the global security situation, preparedness, and how parliaments can strengthen democratic resilience in the future.

“We live in turbulent times, and we depend on close cooperation with all the other countries in Europe. Today, a mere 6.6 per cent of the world's population lives in liberal democracies, and neither we in Norway nor Europe are immune. The conference provided a very good opportunity for useful and productive talks with many of my colleagues, including my German, Danish and Ukrainian counterparts,” said Masud Gharahkhani.
