The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, visited the Storting on Wednesday 15th April. While here, he met President of the Storting Masud Gharahkhani and the parliamentary leaders.
“It was a huge pleasure to welcome President Zelenskyy to the Storting for the third time. I greatly appreciated being able to tell him that there is cross-party agreement in the current Storting – as there was in the last one – to sustain our strong support for Ukraine,” said President of the Storting Masud Gharahkhani.
Mr Zelenskyy’s agenda included a personal meeting with Mr Gharahkhani in his office followed by a meeting with the Storting’s nine parliamentary leaders, chaired by the Storting’s President.
“In recent months, under President Zelenskyy’s impressive leadership, Ukraine has shown that this war is far from lost, despite numerous bleak predictions to the contrary. Yet it’s also crucial for the future of Europe that we stand united in our support. We will continue to follow the situation in Ukraine closely regardless of everything else that is happening in the world, not least in the Middle East. This is about our shared democratic values and our common European future,” said President of the Storting Masud Gharahkhani.
Collaboration in defence technology was one of the items raised in the meetings.
“Ukraine is now at the forefront of defence technology, with drones being a shining example. We have much to learn from our Ukrainian partners on preparedness and defence. It’s important that the Norwegian defence industry has close ties with Ukraine now,” Mr Gharahkhani continued.
The visit was the result of President Zelenskyy’s own wishes. Mr Zelenskyy also came to the Storting in December 2023 and March 2025.
