President of Finland to the Storting

The President of the Storting is hosting the President of Finland, Sauli Niinistö, for a courtesy call on Tuesday 11th October. Mr Niinistö will also meet members of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence during his visit.

“This meeting will provide us with further opportunities to reinforce the close, bilateral ties enjoyed by our two nations. Finland is our neighbour and an important partner in Nordic cooperation,” said Masud Gharahkhani, President of the Storting.
 

Nordic cooperation in crisis times

With both Norway and Finland sharing borders with Russia, the security policy situation in Europe will be an important items on the agenda during the visit.
 
“In these difficult times, with war in our neighbourhood, Nordic collaboration is more vital than ever. We must defend our common values and interests, the principles of democracy and the rule of law, and we must stand united in the global arena,” continued the President of the Storting.
 
The President of Finland has been invited on a state visit to Norway by the Government. It has long been customary to include a courtesy visit to the President of the Storting during such visits.
