Norwegian MPs monitor the US mid-term elections

Three Norwegian MPs are among the 110 election observers from the OSCE’s Parliamentary Assembly who have been monitoring the mid-term elections in the USA. The entire House of Representatives and 34 members of the US Senate have been up for election.

Siv Mossleth (Centre Party), Bård Hoksrud (Progress Party) and Aleksander Stokkebø (Conservative Party) are the Storting’s three members in the election monitoring delegation which the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA) has sent to the United States. In total, the delegation comprises 110 parliamentarians from over 30 of the OSCE’s member states.

New York and Maryland

The Norwegian MPs were dispatched to observe the election in the states of New York and Maryland. Their remit was to monitor that election procedures were carried out correctly. They did so by being present in a selection of polling stations across the two states on polling day.

Election monitoring missions are jointly arranged between the OSCE PA and the organization’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR). The ODIHR has had long-term monitors in place in the USA since before the mid-term elections.
