President of the Storting meets Chairman of Ukraine’s parliament
Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada – the Ukrainian parliament – and President of the Storting Masud Gharahkhani are having an online meeting on Friday 22nd April.
“I’m much looking to speaking to my Ukrainian colleague. The Storting has enjoyed strong ties and close collaboration with the Verkhovna Rada for many years. Our meeting will be an excellent opportunity for me to reaffirm Norway’s strong support for Ukraine in its war with Russia, and for Mr Stefanchuk to bring me up to date on the critical situation his country currently finds itself in,” said Mr Gharahkhani before the meeting.
The President of the Storting sent a letter to Mr Stefanchuk on 3rd March 2022. In it, he condemned the Russian invasion and expressed strong sympathy with Ukraine. He also invited Mr Stefanchuk to a video meeting at a time of mutual convenience.
“President Zelensky’s address to the Storting on 30th March made a huge impression on us all. The meeting with Mr Stefanchuk will be a valuable means of following this up,” added Mr Gharahkhani.
Concert of solidarity and support
The President of the Storting will also be making an appeal in conjunction with a concert of solidarity with Ukraine on Friday evening. The event is a collaboration between the Embassy of Ukraine and Oslo Concert Hall. The Kyiv Grand Ballet from Ukraine will be performing the ballet Giselle to the music of Adolphe Adam.
