“It was an enormous pleasure for me to welcome His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan to the Storting. Norway and Jordan enjoy an extremely good bilateral relationship and collaborate in a number of fields,” said the President of the Storting.
One of the most important items on the agenda during the meeting was Jordan’s experience of receiving refugees. Jordan, a country with a population of over 10 million, is currently home to approximately 1.3 million Syrian refugees.
“At a time when Europe is undergoing a huge flow of refugees from the war in Ukraine, it was very useful to hear more about how Jordan has coped as a host country for such a high number of refugees,” Mr Gharahkhani said.
Other topics on the agenda during the visit were the situation in the Middle East and the ongoing process of political modernization in Jordan.
The invitation to H.M King Abdullah II to pay an official visit to Norway was given by the Norwegian Government. It is traditional during the programme for the President of the Storting to host a courtesy visit.
