Arctic meetings in St. Petersburg
Norwegian-Russian cooperation in the North, research and student exchange, and celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Arctic Council were among the topics when members of the Storting visited St. Petersburg 13-15 September 2016.
The Chair of the Storting’s Delegation for Arctic Parliamentary Cooperation Mr Eirik Sivertsen was a main speaker at a seminar on September 14, following the opening of an exhibition in the Russian Geographical Society displaying Russian-Norwegian cooperation in the North.
In his remarks Mr Sivertsen addressed the long line of cooperation and solidarity in the Arctic. He also challenged the representatives of the Arctic Council on how the continue the successful cooperation in the Arctic Council over the next 20 years.
On September 13 Mr Sivertsen greeted the more than 500 hundred participants at the first Congress of the University of the Arctic. In his address he underlined the importance of student exchange and meetings across borders.
Finally Mr. Sivertsen spoke at the conference celebrating 25 years of cooperation between Nord University and their Russian partners. In his intervention he underlined the importance of regional cooperation between neighbors in North.
