Congratulations to the Nobel Peace Prize winners
President of the Storting Olemic Thommessen has congratulated the Tunisian national dialogue quartet on winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
“The Nobel Peace Prize has great international prestige and helps to turn the spotlight on vital peace issues. It is a way of giving people and organizations who carry out crucial work in the field the recognition they deserve. There are numerous worthy candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize.
This year the committee has chosen the Tunisian national dialogue quartet, who have made a huge contribution to the development of democracy in Tunisia.
The prize underlines the value of dialogue and the importance of a robust civil society in peaceful and democratic development. This is a wonderful expression of support for the organizations and people who are standing up for democracy in the region and the world in general.
A visit to the Storting is a traditional event when the prize winners come to Oslo in December. "I am very much looking forward to congratulating the Tunisian national dialogue quartet when they come, and to hearing more about their work in the field of democratic development. This is the sort of knowledge and know-how that it is essential to draw on during our interparliamentary work. It also acts as a support for the values that Norwegian politicians take with them when dealing with such issues,” said Olemic Thommessen, President of the Storting.
