Business and Industry Committee in India and Myanmar from 17th–25th February
The Storting’s Standing Committee on Business and Industry will be visiting India and Myanmar from 17th to 25th February. Parliamentary cooperation is high on the agenda in both countries.
India, 19th – 21st February
As the world’s biggest democracy, India is a major international power. With approximately 1.25 billion inhabitants, the country is instrumental in the rapidly growing Asian economy. This makes it of prime interest to Norwegian business and industry. The committee is looking forward to interesting and enlightening meetings with the Indian Parliament, local business leaders, and Norwegian companies and their Indian sub-contractors. The committee will also meet Nobel Peace Prize laureate Kailash Satyarthi and his wife, Sumedha.
The committee will be going to the capital city, New Delhi, and Mumbai, the financial capital. On the agenda are meetings with the Indian Parliament’s Business Advisory Committee, meetings with representatives of Norwegian and local business, a visit to the Dharavi slum in Mumbai, and a factory visit outside New Delhi. Among the issues likely to be raised are parliamentary collaboration, regional issues, development projects, tourism, energy, business and labour market questions.
The Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi is responsible for the programme in India.

Myanmar, 21st −25th February
Recent positive developments in Myanmar have turned the country into a more attractive proposition for international investment. By talking to leading politicians and local and Norwegian business leaders, and by visiting a number of companies, the Business and Industry Committee hopes to lay the basis for further collaboration. For many years Norway has been heavily involved in the efforts to further freedom and democracy in Myanmar. This visit aims to highlight Norway’s role and engagement.
Among the items on the agenda during will be business, industry and energy questions, parliamentary cooperation, regional issues, development projects and tourism. The programme will include meetings with Norwegian and local companies, the Norwegian Embassy, the Assembly of the Union (the Myanmar parliament), and representatives from the government and the opposition. The committee will also be present at the launch of the Norwegian Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar. Meetings will take place in both the former capital Yangon and Naypyidaw, Myanmar’s capital since 2005.
