Art project in Eidsvolls plass
An old and shabby dwelling of humble origins from the 1800s is being erected in Eidsvolls plass in front of the Storting.
The building, which has been given the name the House of Commons, is due to be completed on 21st October, and is a project by the renowned Norwegian visual artist Marianne Heske.
The house was originally located at Elvestadkrysset in the municipality of Hobøl, and was later purchased by the Public Roads Administration in connection with the expansion of the E18 motorway through Østfold. Marianne Heske saved the house from demolition, and now, with the permission of the Storting’s Presidium, it is being rebuilt in Eidsvolls plass in front of the Storting, where it will remain until the end of the year.
The unique location of the house is designed to invite onlookers to reflect on Norway’s history and culture.
Heske’s art project is part of a larger project called Oslo Pilot, which is being arranged by Oslo Municipality. The use of Eidsvolls plass has been put at the disposal of the Storting, which has an agreement with the Association of Norwegian Sculptors to put on temporary exhibitions there.
The formal opening of the art project will take place at 17.30 hrs on Wednesday 21st October.
