Join us when we switch on the Christmas lights on 1st December
Peace has begun to descend upon us and it will soon be time to switch on the Christmas lights as a fantastic bicentenary year draws to its close. We would like to invite everybody to a special Advent celebration in and around the Storting on Monday 1st December.
The programme provides both indoor and outdoor activities for young and old:
15:00 Eidsvolls plass
Every year the Storting arranges a tree-lighting ceremony in Eidsvolls plass. This year a further 19 Christmas trees will be placed in Eidsvolls plass. The trees will symbolize Norwegian democracy; one tree for each of our 19 counties. Eidsvolls plass will be turned into the perfect place for reflection and contemplation.

- A speech by President of the Storting Olemic Thommessen

Wessels plass has been turned into a building site while Prinsens gate 26 is being renovated and a new post and delivery centre built. With the building work is due to last until 2017, a photographic exhibition, inspired by the recently published book History of the Storting 1964–2014, has been set up on the boards around Wessels plass. The idea is to mark the Bicentenary of the Norwegian Constitution and to look ahead to the 150th anniversary of the Storting building in 2016.

On Monday 1st December we will be opening our doors and inviting the general public to experience Christmas in the Storting. This will also mark the last opportunity to view the Constitution of 17th May 1814, which is currently on display in the Historical Hall. Don’t miss this chance!
Guided tours for the general public will be arranged in the Storting from 15:30 to 18:00. The tours will take place continuously. Visits will take approximately 30 minutes and will include a tour of the Storting Chamber, the Central Hall, the Staircase Hall and the exhibition "1814 The Year of Miracles", where visitors will be able to see the Constitution of 17th May 1814.
